Restaurants, groceries and supplies can be found in nearby Pahoa (10 miles). Local farmer's markets are a favorite economical source for delicious fresh fruits and vegetables, and a great place to meet visitors and "locals" alike. Kapoho has no restaurants or stores in Kapoho. There is the local Green Lake fruit stand, open Fridays only. To read more 

 

Pahoa 

Pahoa is a historic logging and sugar mill town with a small rustic downtown, located about 10 miles west of Kapoho on Highway 130. Here you will find grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, a new shopping center, and even a Farmer's market (Sundays, 7-2) in Pahoa.  

Kalapana 

Kalapana, on the Kapoho - Kalapana Road (Highway 137 past mile post 22), has a cafe.  The popular Uncle Robert's, with many food vendors, crafts, live music (Hawaiian to rock) and more, is Wednesday nights, 5-9.  

Farmer's Markets 'n wonderful stuff: 

Farmer's markets are a great place to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables and meet locals and visitors. Many of the markets offer a variety of local dishes for lunch or to bring home for an evening meal. There are several farmer's markets near Kapoho. 

 

Maku'u: also includes lunches, crafts, clothing, cut flowers, living orchids, yard sale items, live music, etc.  On Sundays, 8-2, west of Pahoa on Highway 130 (near mile post 7).

 

Pahoa: Sundays, 7-2 in Pahoa (downtown).

 

SPACE: Saturday at Sea View on Highway 137 near mile post 18, 8-12:30.

 

Kea'au: lunches available, as well.  Open every day, 7-5, downtown, 21 miles west of Kapoho.

 

Hilo: includes lunches, produce, and flowers daily.  Clothing, crafts, and more on Wednesdays and Saturdays (downtown). 

 

Fruit stands: You can also obtain fresh fruit at local fruit stands near Kapoho.  There are a couple small stands on the Pahoa-Kapoho Road (Highway 132). They are self-serve and operate on the honor system. Johanna's, offering organic produce daily, is up Papaya Farms Road, accessed off the Old Government Road in Wa'Wa (see above).  In Kapoho, the Green Lake fruit stand (on Highway at mile post 8) is open on Fridays, 10-5.  Try Smiley's banana bread, or ask her about some of her delicious exotic fruits.
